Description About the author Contents

Candragomin, the seventh -century philosoher-poet who dwelt at the Buddhist university of Nalanda for some years, composed works in all three genres that survive in Tibetan translation. For these and other works, and for the accounts of his life, Candragomin is regarded, in the Indo Tibetan tradition. as an exemplar of the bodhisattva ideal. The Tibetan historian Taranatha classes Candragomin with Santideva as the "two wonderful master-teachers" of Indian Buddhism. This text, with translation and commentary by Mark Tatz, presents three of Candragomin's greatest works on the Bodhisattva path, "Twenty Verses on the Bodhisattva Vow," "Praise in Confession," and "Candragomin's Resolve."
