The Middle Way is widely accepted to be the pinnacle of the Buddha's profound philosophical approach and the key to understanding the definitive meaning of a vast number of teachings. However, common misconceptions about how emptiness is the ultimate nature of reality can have a significant impact on the degree of profundity that can subsequently be experienced. If our view is limited, our realisation will also be limited. For this reason, as we strive for ultimate freedom, it is vital to clear away both gross and subtle limitations that prevent us from establishing a view capable of penetrating to the deepest levels of truth.
In this book, Khentrul Rinpoche shines the vivid light of wisdom on the very subtle distinctions which establish the profound view of the Great Middle Way as propagated within the Jonang tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Rooted in the flawless textual tradition of the Buddha's own teachings and those of the Bodhisattva Kings, this widely misunderstood philosophical system emphasizes the clear distinction between the emptiness of conventional reality and the infinite manifestation of ultimate reality, known as buddha-nature. With this direct and fearless analysis, Rinpoch challenges us to transcend narrow modes of thinking and to discover the limitless potential we each carry within.
Great Middle Way: Clarifying the Jonang View of Other-Emptiness, Shar Khentrul Rinpoche Jamphel Lodro, Dzokden Publications, Paperback, 168 Pages, $15.00
Shar Khentrul Jamphel Lodro Rinpoche spent the first 20 years of his life herding yak and
chanting mantras on the plateaus of Tibet. Inspired by the bodhisattvas, he left his family to
study in a variety of monasteries under the guidance of over twenty-five masters in all the
Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Due to his non-sectarian approach, he earned himself the title of
Rime (unbiased) Master and was identified as the reincarnation of the famous Kalachakra
Master Ngawang Chozin Gyatso. His previous reincarnations appeared three times in Eastern
Tibet as Washul Lhazu Lama, Trulku Ngawang and Getse Khentrul. Khentrul Rinpoche is
considered the 7th emanation of Bodhisattva Akasagarbha.
While at the core of his teachings is the recognition that there is great value in the diversity of
all spiritual traditions found in this world; he focuses on the Jonang-Shambhala tradition.
Thought to be extinct by many Western scholars, he found it held the most advanced
teachings of Kalachakra (wheel of time) containing profound methods to harmonize our
external environment with the inner world of body and mind.
Since 2014, he has travelled to more than thirty countries guiding students to realize their
own sacred truth of limitless potential through a clear, systematic step-by-step presentation of
the Kalachakra Path to enlightenment. By teaching people how to cultivate a flexible mind
and remove bias, Khentrul Rinpoche aspires to create compassion-based communities,
transforming this world into a golden age of global peace and harmony
