Description

Shambhala Media is pleased to reissue two public talks that the founder of Shambhala, Vidyadhara the Venerable Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, gave on basic goodness and enlightened society in 1982. On 12 January 1982, in New York City, Rinpoche gave a simple and more formal talk introducing himself, mentioning his early training, the circumstances of the Chinese invasion of Tibet, and his later study of religions and western culture. Then he introduced the theme of enlightened leadership, and the Shambhala teachings on the notion of secular enlightenment, emphasizing the importance of realizing that we are worthy persons, genuine human beings.

In the second talk, given in Boston on 11 march 1982, the Vidyadhara talked about the turmoil of the world, the ravages of materialism, the cocoon mentality of wanting to hide, and our unwillingness to work for others. He exhorted people to help the world. He said we could be heroic and kind at the same time. In each of those talks, more than half of the time was spent on vivid interactions with participants.

The DVD includes as a PDF file, suggested readings and a five-session study plan for people interested in deepening their understanding of the original Shambhala teachings and of the historical development of the Shambhala Training programs.
