An engaging and practical guide to transforming your life through Buddhist practice. The Buddha said that you can't develop wise perspective and freedom through ideas alone - you need to test the truth in your own experience. This book is aimed at people who have an interest in Buddhism and are looking for a way to improve their lives and relationships. Without jargon, and illustrated with cartoons, diagrams, and photographs, it leads readers through potentially life - changing meditations, perspectives, reflections, and practices for everyday life.
Starting on the Buddhist Path: An Invitation, Sagaraghosa Rosemary Tennison, Windhorse Publication, Paperback, 200 pages, $21.95
Sagaraghosa Rosemary Tennison spent much of her working life commissioning mathematics books for schools at Cambridge University Press. She started meditating in 1996. On ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2005, she was given the name Sagaraghosa, which means 'she whose voice is like the ocean'. After ordination she led courses in meditation and Buddhism for newcomers for fourteen years, and also led study on a wide variety of Buddhist topics, both at the Cambridge Buddhist Centre. Sangharakshita, the founder of the Triratna Buddhist Community, appointed her as one of his literary executors.
She delights in making the teachings of the Buddha accessible to as many people as possible and thereby changing their lives for the better. To do this, she uses imaginative approaches and she encourages people to try things out and to reflect on their experience.
She has been married for more than fifty years to a patient and supportive (non-Buddhist) husband, and has two delightful adult daughters and two much-loved grandchildren.
