Description

This vermillion thangka depicts the four-armed form of the red subjugating goddess Kurukulla, whose practice is said to attract all beings and to enchant them with the power of love and desire. She stands in the posture of dance, with her left foot pressing upon a corpse, sun disc and lotus. She if beautiful and lusty, as youthful as a sixteen-year-old, with full breasts, three eyes, and a slightly wrathful expression. Her tawny hair streams upward, and she is crowned with a tiara of five dry skulls. She wears the five bone ornaments, a long silk scarf, a tiger skin loincloth, and a garland of fifty freshly severed heads. With her first pair of hands she draws back a bow and arrow fashioned from red lotus flowers and leaves. Her second pair of right and left hands hold a book and a noose, which are also fashioned from red lotuses. She abides within a blazing mass of wisdom fire, and rays of ruby colored light stream from her body.
