Sherap Dorjee and his band Shang Shung Da Yang originate from Western Tibet and live in exile in Ladakh, an Himalayan region of Tibetan culture situated in India. Aiming to safeguard their endangered cultural heritage, they have acquired an impressive knowledge of the old lyrical repertoire of the Thot tso Yul Duk valleys. The songs are accompanied on the kovo lute, the lingbu flute, the gyumang zither and jerrycans to replace the daf drums. This CD reveals melodies full of mountain poetry, which have resounded in the highest valleys of the world for centuries. Richly illustrated CD booklet. Another rare recording.
